Preferring N-word Over African American?

According to a TMZ poll fifty-five percent of Black Americans prefer to be referred to as N***a and the remaining forty-five percent prefer African American. Why? Well, according to the rap artist, Suga Knight, “We aren’t from Africa.” I’m assuming he is referring to the fact that Blacks called other Blacks the n-word. I’m unsure because the article doesn’t say. However, judge for yourself by reading what Suga Knight said.

As I think about the fifty five percent that would rather be called a n***a, than African American, I think, how crazy! I understand that we don’t all have African roots, but the original slaves did come from Africa. The generation after the original slaves were born in America, so I understand why they wouldn’t want to be called that. African American is also inaccurate for me because I’m so far removed from anything African. Even if I had become nationalized, I couldn’t associate with that term.

However, African American isn’t an offensive term. Non-Blacks prefer it because they feel it’s the most politically correct term to use. I don’t see a point in arguing against it, so I just accept it. Some people will call me Black and others will say African American. That’s fine, but if you ask me, then I prefer to be be called Black, period. If I had a second choice, I would prefer to be called a US citizen, but one thing I’m not is anybody’s n***a. I dont even use that word, to be honest.

I know some people are going to say, “I’m an American.” Well, that’s also not accurate. I can’t remember where I got this from, but there are some people in this world that HATE when US citizens call themselves Americans. I think it’s because we are excluding Mexico and Canada and implying we are the only country in the hemisphere, but I’m not totally sure on that.

Tell me what do you think below. Do you prefer African American, Black, or N****?
